Description

Block is a bit of a brute, blending midcentury and contemporary aesthetics. Inspired by the raw concrete architecture of 20th-century Europe, it’s a display typeface that embodies the tall, imposing, and initially controversial nature of these iconic buildings. Celebrated for their design innovation and as instruments for social change, Block translates these architectural qualities into a typeface with striking visual impact.

Block is cut as a single condensed weight with sharp angles, squared counters and tightly spaced characters creating a bold and uncompromising appearance. Designed for maximum impact at larger sizes, Block works well in environmental, print, and screen-based projects.

Supporting over 275 Latin-based languages and with all the OpenType features of a bigger family, Block is a highly functional display typeface. Stylistic sets allow a shift towards more traditional forms, such as a double-storey ‘a’ and classical shaped ‘r’, or even sharper cuts like the alternate ‘f’, ‘t’, and compact ‘4’. The most visually impactful set replaces all punctuation and symbols with hairline versions.
